What is an APRN?

APRN stands for Advanced Practice Registered Nurse. You may have also heard the term Nurse Practitioner. APRN and Nurse Practitioner are the same thing. A nurse practitioner can serve as your primary care provider (PCP). Our scope of practice is similar to that of a doctor, but our training and education are different. In the State of Connecticut, APRNs can diagnose, prescribe, and refer to specialists. Most APRNs have a specialty. Mine is family medicine, with particular focus on primary care, Queer health, gender affirming care, and HIV care.
